Try this simple exercise to promote mindful walking, inspired by Thich Nhat Hahns book Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life, which provides lots of examples of ways to incorporate mindfulness practice into activities you already engage in every day: First, set your intention to walk mindfully. Take a few deep breaths, and just acknowledge that during your walk you will try to be aware of your environment and your internal state, including your thoughts, feelings, and sensations. There are no set rules for this walk and it can be done in any location. Whether its at a local park or just around your neighborhood, you can practice mindful walking anywhere.  As you begin to walk, first notice the sensation of your feet hitting the ground to help get you focused and centered. Notice the process of moving your legs. What muscles tense or relax as you move? Notice where you are stepping, the quality of each step, the intensity of your motions and the feel of the ground beneath your feet or shoes.Expand your awareness to notice your surroundings. As you walk, what do you see, smell, hear, taste and feel? How does the air feel on your skin? What do you notice around you? Think about what you see, hear and smell as you walk.  Try to remai n aware of the sensation of walking and the external environment while you also become aware of your internal experiences, such as your thoughts, feelings, and emotions.What thoughts cross your mind as you walk? What emotion or emotions are there right now? Are they intense or mild? Are these internal experiences pulling you in or can you observe them with a little bit of distance? No need to judge these internal experiences as good or bad; practice just noticing them for what they are.As you complete your walk, congratulate yourself for your intention to practice mindful walking, no matter how many times your mind was pulled away from the walk or how well you thought your practice went today. Just notice that the intention to be mindful is the key to practice  and pat yourself on the back.   If at any point during your walk you notice your mind wandering to the past or the future or being pulled away from the walk, just gently acknowledge that your mind has wandered and bring yourself back to the present moment. Remember that being pulled away and coming back is the key to mindfulness practice. No one has perfect focus all the time.   With regular practice, mindful walking can help soothe your emotions. As you establish your routine, you may find that your walks help manage your symptoms.

A Search for Justice - Literature Essay Samples

Zits’s many â€Å"awakenings† throughout Sherman Alexie’s Flight help him see the world through a new lens with each body and time he inhabits. In each of these bodies, he learns a little bit more about the way the world is unfair to everyone, rather than just him and the other homeless and drunk Indians. When Zits inhabits the mute Indian boy, he sees how justice often gets warped depending on the context, especially when he compares it to his previous awakenings as Hank Storm, the supposed poster-man for justice. Zits initially sees justice as revenge, but through each awakening, he quickly realizes that justice has a different definition from each perspective it is examined and is unsuccessful in his search because there is no clear meaning of justice or fine line between good and evil people. Zits initially thinks the entire world is an injustice to him and his people and questions whether true justice even exists. However, when he meets Justice the character, Justice convinces him that by seeking revenge, he can bring justice to himself and his people. Zits’ initial understanding of justice is essentially that there is a set amount of it in the world and that perhaps by doing something evil to avenge the injustices brought upon him, he can balance out the justice that non-Indians get versus the lack of justice that Indians have. He believes that be creating violence and wreaking havoc, he can be successful in his search for justice. Zits fails to empathize with other people and sees them all as perfect beings with little to no problems. His understanding of justice at the beginning of the novel is very primitive: he believes that justice is completely black and white and that good people are only good and that evil people are only evil. However, through each awakening, Zits realizes the danger of a single story and that nothing and nobody is as uncomplicated as he used to believe. When Zits becomes Hank, he originally sees Hank just as a cruel murderer. However, he realizes that Hank is also a father, a husband, a faithful friend, and probably a hundred other things. Similarly, he realizes when he becomes the Indian boy that they were not just an indigenous people being destroyed by the white people. He realized that Indians, too, were not only the good people being ravaged by the bad people. Zits realizes that each person is as complicated as he is, and with that, justice cannot be as simple as revenge. He realizes in Gus that what may seem evil to one body of people may seem like the most brave and awe-inspiring acts another body of people has ever seen. In his father, he realizes that his father was not just a traitor: his father was abused and worried and afraid of becoming like his own father. Through the awake nings, Zits understands that whether something can be considered a justice or an injustice changes with each story he looks through. In the end, Zits understands the black versus white definition of justice does not exist. He does also realize that justice is not at all like his initial imagination of it was. He doesn’t fully understand justice other than the fact that shooting up all the innocent people in the bank will definitely not provide him with a sense of fulfillment, vengeance, or whatever other feelings he associates with justice. He gives up his guns because he knows that violence is not the answer, and even though good versus evil is a blurred line, that this act does not constitute a good act, no matter what perspective he or other people might try to empathize with. His search for justice isn’t completely successful because he still doesn’t seem to understand what it means. However, in his search, he learns how complex everything is, even things that seem very simple, like his father leaving him. His search helps him learn to empathize with other people and that everybody has man y different stories and worries and pains and that the world is not just trying to tear him down. Zits, just like Hank and the Indian boy and Gus and his father, is a hundred different people. Zits is not just an Indian experiencing perceived injustice; he is a son, a pimply teenager, a know-it-all, troubled, sassy, etc. However, Zits trapped himself initially in his hate for the world and how unfairly it treated him, resulting in him only being able to see through one perspective. By going through his awakenings, Zits realizes how many different people he is and how justice cannot be achieved simultaneously for every one of those 100 different people he is. Although Zits never seems to truly succeed in finding what justice is, he learns what justice is not, and he learns how complicated justice really gets, since each person is so unique and different.

We see them everyday in many different forms and through different mediums. My previous interest before teaching was psychology. Psychology had always been something which peaked my interest and I wanted to do something in the field. This last January, I was given the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic with the Amarillo College Presidential Scholars to teach children in the little town of Monte Cristi. After this experience, I decided I wanted to become an educator. It seemed as if I had an epiphany of some sort. I wanted to shape lives. I want to become an early childh ood educator to inspire and motivate students to become the best version of themselves in and out of the classroom. As a future educator it is important to incorporate theories and standards into ones classroom. An early childhood educator needs to familiarize themselves with the development of a child. Child development includes stages of mental, physical, social, and linguistic growth from birth to age two (Morrison, 2015, p. 5). It is essential for an educator to have knowledge of each individuals needs in the classroom. By being aware and knowledgeable of the development one is promoting Standard 1: Promoting Child Development and Learning. There are several influences on a childs development. This can range from their culture, relationships, socioeconomic conditions, and if there is a disability involved. Being in the position of an educator it would be my responsibility to adjust curriculum based on my students needs. Not only would I need to be able to adjust my curriculum but my classroom as well. I would need and want to reflect on myself and how my students are responding to me (Morrison , 2015, p. 5-8). Tying into the first standard, Abraham Maslow developed a theory named, self-actualization. His theory is based on basic needs. He believed children would not be able to function nor achieve well if the satisfaction of basic needs were not intact. Maslows hierarchy of needs theory states basic needs must be obtained before moving to the next level (Morrison, 2015, p. 147-148). As an educator, it is important I make a child feel as if though they are having those basic needs met. Educators need to be aware of what is going on in a childs personal life at home. Children will not excel if they are not provided with adequate food. I would make it a goal to work with my students families to make sure children are meeting those basic needs. The level which stands out most to me is belonging and loving. Children need to feel as if they belong in my classroom. I want to create a relationship with each individual in my classroom so there are no questions on whether or not t hey belong. I believe it is important to create relationships with students family and community. Standard 2: Building Family and Community Relationships is important to a childs learning. It is beneficial to a teacher to create these relationships because it gives one insight to see how a childs home life is as well as giving the teacher an opportunity to see how families view education. Planning activities which involve families help you learn more about the child. If a child comes from a family who speaks a different language, it would be useful to learn a few words and attempt to speak the childs native language. This makes the child feel validated as well as shows the family you are trying (Morrison, 2015, p. 12). Along with building those relationships, showing you respect your student and their family is necessary. Reggio Emilia Approach was developed by Loris Malaguzzi. Children are the constructors of their own knowledge is the basic belief of this approach (Morrison, 2015, p. 170). Thi s approach emphasizes the importance of respecting children. Along with respect, creating relationships is of utmost importance. I do not believe I will integrate every aspect of the Reggio Emilia Approach, I do believe I will incorporate the fact children learn through social interactions. Another concept I find interesting and useful is Malaguzzi believed children express themselves in many languages, hundred languages (Morrison, 2015, p. 171). These languages include drawing, building, discussing, and modeling. This approach believes children are best expressed through art. I do want my classroom to be child-centered to an extent. Meaning all children should have an education, have something unique about each of them and the childs ideas and preferences should be considered when planning instruction (Morrison, 2015, p. 121). Being able to accommodate for children in my classroom is important to me. A way to know if accommodations need to take place is Standard 3: Observing, Documenting, and Assessing to Support Children and Families. It is a responsibility an educator has to their students. Assessment helps determine if any accommodations need to be made based on a childs development, learning, or academic process (Morrison, 2015, p. 12). Gathering this information can be done in several different ways. One of my personal favorites is the portfolio. A portfolio is a compilation of a students work taken over time as well as a teachers observation (Morrison, 2015, p. 81). This specific method may require a little more upkeep, but I believe it is worth it to see how a child progresses over time. This is also a great way to show a parent what a child has done over the year in a conference or towards the end of the year. A theory which goes along with standard 3 is Blooms Taxonomy. Blooms Taxonomy is the clas sification of objectives educators set for students. This also mentions learning at a higher level is dependent on already having foundational knowledge and lower level skills mastered (Morrison, 2015, p. 82). Blooms Taxonomy is a set of three models; affective, psychomotor, and cognitive. I will implement Blooms Taxonomy in my classroom. This will help me gain a better understanding of a childs knowledge if I decide to use an interview as a way to observe. Depending on the types of questions Id ask, I would be able to see where a student does not understand a specific concept and modify instruction and do what is needed to be done to help the student succeed. Standard 4: Using Developmentally Effective Approaches to Connect with Children and Families is beneficial to have implemented in a classroom. As stated before, relationships are important when it comes to the field of education. Relationships with colleagues, students, and their families. By creating those relationships, it enables you to notice things you may not have before. Once children begin to get comfortable with you as their teacher, they will start acting like they normally would somewhere else. This gives an educator an opportunity to see how they may learn. For example, Bandura and the Social Learning Theory states children learn and gain new information by observation (Morrison, 2015, p. 143). I believe this theory is true to an extent. I do not believe children only learn by observing what others do, but I do believe there is a great influence on a child based on what they observe. The environment is important in this theory. It is important to me a student feels welco me in the environment of the classroom. I want to make my classroom as welcoming as possible. This allows them to fully immerse themselves into learning. Another theory which falls into this same area is behaviorism. This is the idea behaviors are learned through punishment or rewards (Morrison, 2015, p. 142). I will use a rewards system in my future classroom. I am unsure of the exact reward system, but one will be in place. I encourage the idea of students being rewarded for good behavior. I believe being rewarded or punished for a behavior does build learned behavior to a point. A student will learn their action (if positive) will result in good. If the opposite will result in something negative. I do not believe in constant rewards. Process praise provides a foundation for continuous good behavior (Morrison, 2015, p. 428). I believe encouraging is more beneficial than praise. Encouraging focuses more on the childs effort and their success. A child educator is more aware of specific circumstances which impact families of students. Advocacy is the act of engaging in strategies which help improve circumstances of children and their families (Morrison, 2015, p. 18). I believe I need to be the biggest advocate for my students. I would like to work in a school who is known for their advocacy when it comes to their students. Being involved in the community is important to me and I would like to carry this on in my profession. An advocate is part of Standard 6: Becoming a Professional. Becoming a professional means to me that I am always looking for improvement. I am never a finished product. A specific way to help me grow as an educator is to become familiarized with my students community and advocate for improvements where needed. Trainings and workshops will help me learn how to become an advocate. I will need to go to trainings and find other ways to continuously grow as an educator. Learning from others is something I wan t to take advantage of. Early childhood education is influenced by various theorists and their theories. This is the foundation of early education and is still implanted today. I believe children are the future and as a future educator, I want to be able to nourish this concept as effectively as possible. Including all children and their learning styles in a classroom is crucial to me. With so many resources available to teachers, it is not as difficult to adjust an instruction to better suit a child, or to modify your teaching style to benefit a child with a special need. It is evident those who are interested in this field have a passion for others. There is a substantial amount of effort which goes into becoming an early childhood educator. I believe each child can learn and all it takes is a specific individual to make this feasible for them. There will be trials within this profession, but knowing I have the potential to make even one student realize all they are capable of, is worth it.

The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now, the sport has grown to a global pastime, including men's and women's teams, and the World Cup (which is played every four years). History and Origins Games similar to soccer were played in China as early as 400 BC. In about 200 AD the Romans played a game in which two teams tried to score by advancing a ball across a line on the field. The Romans passed the ball to one another but they never kicked it. London children in about 1100 played a form of soccer in the streets. During the 1800's the people of England played a game similar to soccer. Many rules changed and each person interpreted the rules differently. The modern version came about in the early nineteenth century, in England. It started as a game involving kicking and handing, but later this branched off into two separate sports: rugby and football (which is what the English call soccer). In 1848 a group of school representatives met at Trinity College in Cambridge and drew up the first of soccer rules. In 1863 English soccer clubs founded the Football Association. By the late 1800's soccer began to spread to the rest of the world. The Canadian Soccer Association was established in 1912 while the United States Soccer Federation was set up in 1913. The first World Cup Championship was in Montevideo, Uruguay. Since then it has been played every four years except during WWII. The North American Soccer League (NASL) was formed in 1968 and the sport began to gain popularity in the 1970's. Modern Game and Rules The modern game of soccer has a simple goal: kick or head the ball in to the goal of your opponent's team. Basically, there is also one simple rule: No one except the goalkeeper may use they're hands to play the ball. Soccer is a simplistic sport. Eleven members of each team defend their side of the field to prevent the ball from being forced into their goal, which results in a point scored by the team kicking the ball. There are only three officials involved during play: The referee, and two linesmen. The equipment used in soccer is also very simple. In addition to the field itself, all that is needed for a game is two goals (eight feet high and eight yards apart) and a ball. Each player wears hard plastic or padded shin guard, covered by long socks, for protection during play. Cleats are also worn for traction on the field. A goalie may also wear a special padded shirt, and gloves to protect his or her hands. A standard field, as regulated by the Federation International de Football Association (or FIFA), has a length between 100 and 130 yards, and a width of between 50 and 100 yards. The rules of play for soccer have deliberately been kept simple (see rules as appendix). The referee makes most of the decisions, and attempts to encourage fair play. A soccer game begins with a kickoff in the center of the field. A coin is flipped to decide which team will kickoff. Drucker has emphasized the importance of role of management not only in business but also on political state of affairs of many countries. He asserted that only management can help most of the countries to come out of their economic and/or political struggle and build their economies. Drucker’s seven key elements, as described by Hutton and Holbeche, (Drucker, 2007a) that influenced organisational thinking and practice to a large extent include, scientific management as the key to productivity; decentralization as the basic principle of organisation; personnel management as the orderly way of fitting people into organisation structures; manager development to provide for needs of tomorrow; managerial accounting for use of analysis and information as the foundation for firm decision-making; marketing; and long-range planning (Drucker, 2007b). Drucker’s philosophy of management was based on five basic principles: setting objectives, organising, motivating and communicating, establishing measurements of performance, and developing people and self. Drucker refers to these principles as manager’s responsibilities. However, some of these principles have been criticized by others. For example, Parkinson argued that some of Drucker’s principles are vague and others are still to be defined. He also felt that Drucker’s ignorance of a specific issue/problem seems greater than his knowledge. Some of leading management theories of the 20th century contributed by Drucker include, management by objectives; putting the customer first; the role of chief executive in corporate strategy, and structure follows strategy. Drucker proposed the theory of the business, in which he contended the fact that businesses are run on a
